A Brief Bio

Derek McKenzie is a seasoned therapist with a profound commitment to fostering positive change. Founder of the thriving private practice, Mutual Dialogue, since 2016, Derek specialises in individual and couple’s therapy. His expertise also extends to mentoring the next generation of therapist, offering clinical supervision to both trainees and experienced professionals. With over 15 years in the addiction industry, Derek made a significant impact in 2014 when he established and managed a residential treatment facility dedicated to aiding those trapped in addiction, homelessness, and recurring incarceration. This facility’s excellence was recognised in March 2017 when it received the esteemed Centre for Social Justice Award. Academically accomplished, Derek is in the 5 th year of his doctoral studies. He holds a BA-Hons in Counselling and a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Supervision. His vast experience also includes a five-year tenure as an associate therapist for a renowned Sporting Body and delivering supervision for a training college in Hornsey.

Derek is passionate about diversifying the field of psychotherapy. As both an advocate and activist for pluriversality, he ardently believes in reshaping training modalities to be more inclusive, with a particular emphasis on addressing the underrepresentation of Black males in the profession.
