A Brief Bio
Lewis R. Gordon is a philosopher, political thinker, educator, and musician. He is a leading voice in Africana philosophy, philosophy of existence, phenomenology, social and political philosophy, philosophy of culture, aesthetics, philosophy of education, and philosophy of science. Lewis has developed pioneering theories about social transformation, decolonization, and liberation to name but a few. His work and influences address the problems of normative political and educational concerns beyond justice. Lewis has spoken and written extensively over the years.
Lewis is Professor and Head of Philosophy at UCONN-Storrs; Honorary President, Global Center for Advanced Studies; Honorary Professor, Unit for the Humanities at Rhodes University (UHURU), South Africa; Visiting Professor, University of Johannesburg, South Africa; and Chairperson of the Awards Committee, Caribbean Philosophical Association.
